Parana is now the leading producer of wheat, rye, potatoes and black beans. Its population does not increase as rapid as it use to, partly because of the displacement of rural workers following the uprooting of coffee plants in the more frost-prone areas and the turning of the land over to cattle. Curitiba is the capital of this region and is one of the three cleanest cities in South America. The city has extensive open spaces and some exceptionally attractive modern architecture.
The world famous Iguassu Falls, are located in this region and are a must on the travel agenda of Nature Lovers. Two National Parks protect the falls and a large area around the parks that make up the last southern preservation area for the atlantic forest type jungle. The Iguassu River is home to the Iguassu Falls. Exploring the falls allows you to feel the thrill of being close to the power of nature.
