The Parque Municipal
The Principal building in the Parque Municipal is the Palicio das Artes, which contains the Centro de Artesanato Mineiro, an exhibition of painting in Minas Gerais, a cinema; three theatres and temporary exhibitions.

Praca da Liberdade
Fine public buildings, some in eclectic, fin-de-siecle-style surround Praca da Liberdade, others more recent. At the end of the Praca is the Palacio da Liberdade. The Praca itself is very attractive, with trees, flowers, fountains that are lit at night and joggers and walkers making the most of the paths.

The railway station, with a museum on the 2nd floor showing a model railway, is part of a complex, which includes a number of buildings dating from the 1920s around the Praca da Estacao.

Museu Mineiro
Houses religious and other art in the old Senate building, close to the centre.

Museu de Historia Natural, in the Instituto Agronomico, R Gustavo da Silveira, Santa lnes, has a local geological and palaeontological display and good archaeological exhibits. Also here is the Jardim Botanico, which is to be combined with the Jardim Zoologico. In the garden is the Presepio do Pipiripau, the Nativity of Pipiripau, a huge depiction of the life of Christ.
