Campo Grande
This city is the capital of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul. It was founded in 1899 and became state capital in 1979 when Mato Grosso do Sul separated from Mato Grosso. It is a pleasant, modern city. It is often called the 'Cidade Morena' because of the red earth found in the area. This city holds many attractions, which include, a shady park called the Praca Republica, Museu Don Bosco (Indian Museum), R Barao do Rio Branco, Museu do Arte Contemporaneo and Marechal Rondon e Calogeras.

Bonito
The city of Bonito yields granite and marble and is clad in forest. The area's main attractions are in its rivers and caves. There are spectacular walks through mountains and forest; wildlife includes birds, rheas, monkeys, alligators and anaconda. Bonito has become very popular with vacationers, especially during the months between December and January.

Corumba
This city is situated on the southbank by a broad bend in the Rio Paraguai. The city offers beautiful views of the river especially at sunset. It is hot and humid and the cooler months are June and July. There is a spacious shady Praca da Independencia and the port area is worth a visit. The Forte Junqueira is the city's most historic building, which may be visited. In the hills to the south is the world's greatest reserve of manganese. Corumba is the best starting point for this southern region, with boat and jeep trips and access to the major hotel/farms.
